stuff you may enjoy

Colin from Unashamed Workman conducted an interview with Tim Keller that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Here is a quote that stuck with me from Tim Keller: “preaching should be Biblical, clear (for the mind), practical (for the will), vivid (for the heart,) warm, forceful, and Christo-centric. You should avoid the opposites of all these things.” Amen.

Al Mohler interacts with the liberal notion that the preaching of the cross is insanity as it promotes a cosmic psychopath.

Seth McBee relates an excellent story of divine providence whereby God opened a door for him to minister to an inmate.

Matt Fudge relays how a sales call caused him to be more impressed with the gospel.

Pulpit finished a helpful three-part series on spanking.

The Boston Globe reports that researchers are finding that the relentless focus on self-esteem is part of the cause behind the narcissism of today’s generation (ht: Justin Taylor)

::more reasons why people laugh at evangelicals

Also, if you would like to see more reasons why people laugh at evangelicals in general and in particular to see the type of horrific evangelical advertising that we are exposed to here in Omaha, check out this page. This guy has been flooding the airways since I can remember. My personal worst on this page is the one where he compares his relationship with his dog to his relationship with God.

Here is another beauty from Christ Community Church in Omaha. There, I think I have now included all of the bad commercials/sermon promotions that we have seen recently by the church growth churches in Omaha, I just didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings by leaving them out.

Travis Carden has expanded his Grace To You ‘warehouse’. In addition to the G2Y podcast archive, he is now offering the video archive as well. Travis’ site has some other helpful free stuff on it as well.

I am enjoying Matt Chandler’s series on the cross right now. You may get these free under “The Village Church” at the iTunes store.

iTunes is allowing a free download of The Bible Experience’s rendering of Matthew 26-28. We listened to it last night and enjoyed it. I think it is Laurence Fishburne who reads the words of Jesus…if you can get by stuff like this it is fine.

Have a great Resurrection Sunday. Don’t forget to pray for your pastors :/

  1. Thank you for the links to Matt Chandler. I had never heard of him, but I downloaded his series to my Ipod, and OH WOW. The Lord spoke to me through him, thanks for the link direction.

    Happy Easter.

Thanks for posting these. I’ve also really enjoyed Matt Chandler’s preaching. Have you listened to his talk at Driscoll’s church last May? It’s called “Gravity” and you can get it through the Resurgence podcast.

Jake, I did listen to and enjoy that message. No doubt Chandler has his quirks, as do we all, but the bulk of what he says is very helpful, in my view.
