So what is so good about Good Friday? This question was asked at our dinner table the other day and has been rattling around in my head ever since. Someday I’d like to make a tract with this question on it; perhaps for next year. What follows are some meditations as to why Good Friday is good.
Good Friday is ‘good’ because…
…Jesus was my substitute there upon that blood-stained tree
…Jesus wore the crown of thorns that I might wear the crown of life
…Jesus was scourged that I might be healed
…Jesus was condemned that I might be pardoned
…Jesus was abandoned that I might be accepted
…Jesus was made to be sin that I might become righteous
…Jesus pleased the Father whom I had angered
…Jesus tasted death that I may never taste it
…Jesus drank wrath that I might drink the waters of life
…Jesus died that I may live
…Jesus was showered with judgment he did not deserve that I might be showered with the grace that I do not deserve
…Jesus distinguished himself as the exclusive basis for divine forgiveness
…Jesus purchased eternal redemption through his eternal sacrifice to pay my eternal debt
…Good Friday is good because I am so bad
….and Good Friday is only good because the Savior, our Lord Jesus is so good

Thanks bro. Those reminders give me great joy and glorify Christ.
Good Friday is ‘good’ because..
the price to purchase my pardon from God’s wrath which was due me because of my sin was paid in full on the cross.
Amen!
Erik, I wanted to let you know that I nominated you for a Thinking Blogger Award. I appreciate your blog.
Great meditation Erik! Checkout iTunes today on the homepage for Free download of The Easter Story:The Bible Experience. It’s a drama of Matthew 26-28 and they do a literal verse by verse script. I followed along in my Bible and nothing was left out. Download and meditate and on the perfect, sinless Lamb of God! All praise and glory to our Lord and Saviour!
Good Friday is ‘good’ because…
Jesus vindicated the righteousness of God when I provoked the the wrath of God
Jesus paid the price that I owed in full
Jesus bridged separation with love when I built separation with sin
Kyle and Barry thanks for adding some further encouragement. I think that word vindication is a great cross-centered word (Rom. 3.21-27).
Laurie, I’m glad you like the blog and I appreciate the nomination. However, I can’t help but wonder if someone might wonder what you are thinking 8~D
Dave, I downloaded the audio, will check it out tonight.
Because “It is finished”, finished in the best way possible. On Good Friday we celebrate the EVENT of salvation that happened to a real person in REAL time. Yet, this event, because it happened to God, transcended all of time and eternity.
Therefore, it reached back to “before the foundations of the earth” and beyond this present age. It is the eternal Present. Both as gift and as moment in place and time, in which we may abide. May I be ever NOW with Him in His death and therefore with Him in His Life.
What a mystery! What a paradox! Behold, the triumphant cross of Christ.
Good Friday was good because God glorified Himself through the brilliant display of His justice and His grace on that day. If we were not saved that day, it would still be Good Friday, because of what God did for His own glory. By His grace, though, He showed Himself to be our justifier by the full, undiminished outpouring of His justice. It is how that day highlights God that makes it good, not how it highlights us.
Good thoughts…Thanks Andy
