You are right. I tend to spend more time absorbed in reading and reacting on other sites more than I spend developing my own. If it counts for anything, it testifies to the quality of Erik’s site here. 90% of the people who click my site come from this site and there isn’t much discussion there, so I find the forum here much more fullfilling and beneficial. I will take your challenge to heart, though.

Brother, if you were trying to play the devil’s advocate I don’t think anyone recognized it. It is hard to play that card in a forum such as blogging or comments to blogging. I looked to see if you had posted anything on your blog recently but you haven’t. Posting has a way of opening yourself up and allowing others to encourage and critique. From some of your past comments to this and other posts, you seem to focus on the latter approach. I’d like to challenge you to post something on your own blog.

I apologize for the method, but I am really just trying to make a point. If you didn’t know Steve Lawson and have an established respect for him and you saw this video, what would your reaction be. Let me point out a few things.
1) Who is he trying to preach to? What was his point in quoting scripture?
2) He didn’t do it because he was moved by God to do it. The person holding the camera phone asked him to.
3) Whether or not they intended for it to end up on u-tube, the fact of the matter is that he did record it on his phone. Why? What purpose would there be in recording it except to showboat someone’s ability to quote scripture?

4) Read your post and tell me where the emphasis is, on God, or on Steve?

“I love the fact that 1) Lawson is standing on the rock, 2) Mike asks him to quote the verse, 3) Lawson is more than ready and has the thing cued up (before Mike can give him the specific verse), 4) he quotes it with passion”

Believe it or not, I am really not trying to tear down the power of this video. I was moved by it as well. I am just trying to demonstrate how something can be nit-picked to death such as I have seen done to other worthy things on this site in the past. I don’t know Steve Lawson, but by the respect you all have for him, I trust he is a true servant of God. I also don’t question his motives here. As I said, I am just making a point.

Yeah, look at him. A better brother in Christ than I. How many people here have that passage memorized word for word? It convicts me that I need to be more serious about memorizing Scripture.

Pat was telling me about that rock when he was here in Ulysses, how cool. I love historical stuff like that.
